MOTHER HELPAGE NEEDS YOUR URGENT ATTENTION TO AID ROHINGYA REFUGEES IN CRISIS
The Rohingyas currently in Myanmar, a stateless people that have been denied citizenship despite it being their homeland for generations, have faced continuous hardship and persecution forcing hundreds of thousands to seek asylum in neighbouring regions.
The current population of 1.3 million Rohingya’s that reside in the Rakhine state (formerly Arakan) are denied state education and civil service jobs as well as continuous ill-treatment and torture, which has been described by UN officials as an unfolding ethnic cleansing of this people.
The UN halted distributions in northern Rakhine state after militants attacked government forces on 25 August and the army responded with a counteroffensive that has killed hundreds of people.
In the deadliest outbreak of violence in the area for decades, the military has been accused of atrocities against the persecuted Rohingya minority, tens of thousands of whom have fled burning villages to neighbouring Bangladesh, many with bullet wounds.
As the situation unfolds, and with your continued support, Mother HelpAge intend to continue to provide practical aid that meets the needs of refugees.
